Various Flashcards
Dualism
The idea that we have a soul and the mind is a state of that soul.
What is Functionalism in philosophy of mind?
In philosophy of mind, functionalism is the thesis that mental states (beliefs, desires, being in pain, etc.) are constituted solely by their functional role, which means, their causal relations with other mental states, sensory inputs and behavioral outputs.[1] Functionalism developed largely as an alternative to the identity theory of mind and behaviorism.
Physicalism
In philosophy, physicalism is the metaphysical thesis that “everything is physical”, that there is “nothing over and above” the physical, or that everything supervenes on the physical. Physicalism is a form of ontological monism—a “one substance” view of the nature of reality as opposed to a “two-substance” (dualism) or “many-substance” (pluralism) view. Both the definition of “physical” and the meaning of physicalism have been debated.
Occam’s Razor
Its a method of reasoning where you always pick simple solutions since they are more likely to correct than complex ones. By definition all assumptions introduce possibilities for errors. If an assumption does not improve the probability of a theory its only effect is improving the probability of the theory being wrong.
Why do cells divide when other cells are damaged?

What is entropy?
It is the “degree of randomness” of things or “mesaure of disorder”
What is nihilism?
Nihilis is a philosophy, or family of views within philosophy, that rejects generally accepted or fundamental aspects of human existence, such as objective truth, knowledge, morality, values or meaning. Different nihilist positions hold variously that human values are baseless, that life is meaningless, that knowledge is impossible, or that some set of entities do not exist or are meaningless or pointless.
What are monte carlo methods?
Monte Carlo methods, or Monte Carlo experiments, are a broad class of computational algorithms that rely on repeated random sampling to obtain numerical results.
What is zero knowledge proof?
Its a proof where you prove that you know something without showing what you know.
