- what are some regional names for it?
Names - Sangiovese in Chianti, Brunello in Montalcino, Prugnolo Gentile in Montepulciano (and makes Vino Nobile de Montepulciano). However, there’s a separate varietal named Montepulciano that goes in Montepulciano d’Abruzzo that is different.

Very terroir-sensitive and flavor profiles vary by climate

Cool climate - sour cherry, orange peel, licorice
Warm climate - dark cherry, plum, chocolate, herbal notes
