Variables and Designs Flashcards
7 steps of the Scientific method
- Identifying the research problem/area
- formulating a hypothesis/research question,
- designing the method/study,
- gathering/collecting the data,
- analysing the data
- interpreting the data, and finally,
- writing a research report
what is a Aim
An aim is written as a statement that includes the variables
being studied
what is a investigation question
An investigation question is the question the study intends
to solve, or what the researcher is trying to find out.
what is a experiment
An experiment looks to find out how the IV
affects DV
what is the experimental group
group exposed to the IV.
what is a Control group
group that is not exposed to the IV.
what is a Dependent variable
what we are measuring for example how long it takes for you to run 100m
what is a independent variable
a independent variable is the thing that changes during the experiment for example the type of shoes he uses during the experiment
what is a controlled variable
A control variable is an element that is not changed throughout an experiment
what is a hypothesis
A hypothesis is a statement which is
testable prediction about the
relationship between two variables
what is the population
the wider group of people that the researcher is interested in understanding
what is a sample
the participants selected from the population, who participate in the investigation
what is a control group
participants are not exposed to the IV
what is a Experimental group
participants are exposed to the IV
