Validity & Reliability Flashcards
Reliability
A measure gives consistent results
A measure (e.g., Anxiety Scale) that actually measures what it intends it measure (e.g., Anxiety).
Validity
Consistency between observers.
Interobserver Reliability
The degree to which score on scale correlates with another scale.
Parallel Forms
Test-Retest Reliability
Consistency of a measure over time (for example 6 weeks apart).
Items on an instrument measure the same thing.
Internal Consistency
Often used to test internal consistency. We want to see an alpha of .70 or higher.
Cronbach alpha
In quantitative research, in the subjective judgment by the researcher that a measure appears to measure what it is supposed to measure.
Face Validity
In quantitative research, seeks to determine the degree to which a measure covers the range of meanings included within a concept.
Content Validity
In quantitative research, the degree to which a measure relates to an external concrete or observable measure.
Criterion Validity
In quantitative research, the degree to which a measure relates to other variables as expected within a system of theoretical relationships.
Construct Validity
