Validity Flashcards
Define internal validity
The extent to which the researcher is measuring what they set out to measure
Define external validity
Applying the conclusions of a scientific study outside the context of the study
Define face validity
The extent to which the test appears to test what it aims to test
Define construct validity
The extent to which a test or method measures a scientific psychological treatment
Define concurrent validity
The extent to which results from a test correlate with a pre-existing test
Define criterion validity
The extent to which results from a test correlate with a pre existing test
Define ecological validity
The extent to which the results from a piece of research can be generalised to real life behaviour in terms of the setting and the task
Define population validity
The extent to which the results from a piece of research can be generalised to the target population/the sample used is representative of the target population
Define mundane realism
How similar the task is to a real life task
Define experimental realism
Are participants fully engaged

- occupation
What factors should be considered when looking at internal validity?
- controls and extraneous variables
- demand characteristics
- researcher bias
- participant variables
