Validity Flashcards

1
Q

What is content validity?

A

used for achievement tests
assured by systematic procedures that look at the domain that we are wanting to measure and ensure that we have test items that represent the full scope of what we want to measure

Q

What is criterion-related validity?

A
  • empirical
  • important for tests used for selection
  • concerned with correlating test scores with scores on an objective measure of performance (a criterion)

Q

What are the two types of criterion-related validity and what do they mean?

A
  • concurrent: get the scores at the same time (appropriate when e.g. diagnosing a current state)
  • predictive: predict the scores (appropriate to predict future performance)

Q

What is construct validity?

A

an accumulation of evidence about test scores - seeing whether our test scores behave in a way that we would predict they behave given a theory about the construct they are measuring

Q

What are the two types of construct validity and what do they mean?

A
  • convergent: correlate scores on our test with scores on similar constructs
  • divergent: correlate scores on our test with scores on dissimilar constructs

indicates the expected error in prediction of a person’s score on a criterion given their test score
