Tool measures content according to the lay person

Tool measures content based according to an expert based on theory
Criterion validity
The criteria of the tool match other tools
What’s concurrent validity
Tool gives similar scores as other tools on the same subjects
What’s discriminant validity
Tool gives high scores for well people and low scores for sick people, predictive validity
What’s Predictive validity
Tool predicts significant differences among different groups
What’s construct validity
Tool measures what it’s supposed too
What’s internal validity
Measurement results warrant a casual conclusion
What’s error/ variation
We accept some error is always present we seek to minimise error to an acceptance level, confounds our results and leads to incorrect conclusions, you could say extent of error increases with increasing sensitivity, error can come from quality of equipment, your skill, other
What will effect results
Validity- the right test/ tool
Error- who measures? Inter rater- 1 person, intra rater same person
How good are they at it? Quality of equipment, anything confounding the results, pain, motivation
What are the types of reliability
Inter rater, intra rater, test retest, internal consistency, parallel forms
What’s reliability
Tells you how consistently a method measures something when you apply the same method to the same sample under the same conditions
What’s test retest reliability
The same test over time
What’s inter rater reliability
The same test conducted by different people
What’s parallel forms
Different versions of a test which are designed to be equivalent
What’s internal consistency
The individual items of a test
What’s intra rater reliability
Measures of how consistently an individual is at measuring the same phenomenon
