Validation of Data Flashcards
the act of “double-checking” or verifying data to confirm that it is accurate and factual.
Validation
Validation of data involves three steps:
- you need to decide whether the data
require validation - you have to determine ways to validate the data
- you have to identify areas for which data are missing
Not every piece of data you collect must be verified.
Data Requiring Validation.
Conditions that require data to be rechecked and validated include:
- Discrepancies or gaps between the subjective and objective data.
- Discrepancies or gaps between what the client says at one time versus another time.
- Findings that are highly abnormal and/or inconsistent with other findings.
Methods of Validation
Different ways to validate the accuracy of data.
Repeating assessment
Asking additional questions from the client
Verifying the data from another health care professional
Comparing the collected subjective and objective data.
Identifying Areas for which Data are Missing
Once initial data is established, identify areas for which more data are needed. Certain questions may have been overlooked.
