Vagus Nerve Flashcards
Development?
Sensory ,motor & parasympathetic fibers
In association with branchial arches
Exit from brain?
Behind the olive close to IX&XI nerves
Exit from skull?
Jugular foramen
General character?
General somatic sensory General visceral sensory General visceral motor Special visceral motor Special visceral sensory
Parts?
Cranial
Cervical
Thoracic
Abdominal
Branches of cranial & it’s innervation & topography ?
Meningeal(meninges)- from superior ganglion & passes to cranial dura matter in posterior cranial fossa
Auricular (skin of external surface of auricle& posterior wall of external acoustic meatus)- from superior ganglion & passes over mastoid canaliculi of temporal bone
Branches of cervical ,innervation & topography?
Pharyngeal (wall of pharynx)-throat,palatopharyngeus ,palatoglossus muscles
Superior cervical cardiac- passes downward common carotid artery (thyroid gland & thymus)
Superior laryngeal -arises from inferior ganglion of vagus nerve (tunica mucosa of pharynx & tongue )
Recurrent laryngeal (right & left) - passes upward between oesophagus & trachea;tunica mucosa of larynx and its muscles
Branches of thoracic part & innervation?
Bronchial branch - forms pulmonary plexus (lungs )
Oesophagus- forms esophageal plexus (surface of oesophagus)
Branches of abdominal, topography & innervation?
Anterior vagal trunk - front surface of stomach (anterior gastric, liver or hepatic branches)
Posterior vagal trunk- posterior wall of stomach (posterior gastric, coeliac branches)
