Vagus(CN X) Flashcards
Anatomical position and branches
Vagus nerves descends anterior or posterior to the common carotid arteries?
Posterior
Also enters mediastinum posterior to the brachiocephalic v.
What is is the landmark of R. Vagus nerve relative to R. Subclavian artery?
Anterior to R. Subclavian a.
What is the landmark of the R. Vagus nerve relative to the veins?
It runs posterior to the R. Brachiocephalic, SVC and root of lung(forms pulmonary plexus)
When the R. Vagus nerve supplies the oesophagus, what does it form?
Oesophageal plexus
When branch does the L. Vagus nerve give off at the aortic arch?
L. Recurrent laryngeal nerve
What brach does the L. Vagus nerve give off posterior to left root of lung
Pulmonary plexus
Left and right laryngeal nerves are given of at which mediastinum?
Superior Mediastinum
State clearly the anatomical positions of L. and R. Recurrent Laryngeal nerves
R. Laryngeal - hooks around subclavian artery and passes to larynx between trachea and oesophagus
L. Laryngeal - passes inferior to arch of aorta lateral to ligamentum arteriosum and passes to larynx between trachea and oesophagus
