How was the vaccination discovered:
J noticed that people who caught cowpox didn’t catch smallpox. He gave a boy cowpox and he was ill but recovered. Then J have the boy smallpox, and the boy didn’t get ill. He named his discovery the vaccination.
How does herd immunity work:
If 95% of a population is vaccinated, the others should experience immunity too
How does a vaccination work:
A small amount of a dead/inactive pathogen injected into your bloodstream. The wbc’s recognise it as foreign, and kill it. They remember how to kill it so when the real pathogen enters the bloodstream, they kill it quickly so you don’t get ill. Reference antibodies and antigens
