Q

What is a domain?

A
  • A grouping of network objects (users/computers) that share a common database and security policies
  • Database: stores information about network objects within the domain, like user accounts, computer accounts, attributes (names, email addresses)
  • Security policies (separate from database): applied to objects within the domain
  • Why: Can use domain to define boundaries and manage network objects in a centralized manner

When you deploy Active Directory, you create one or more domains within a forest. Each domain has its own database that contains information about the objects (such as users, computers, groups) within that domain.
