V Fib & Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
1
Q
what are shockable rhythms?
A
- Ventricular Tachycardia
- Ventricular Fibrillation
2
Q
what are the non-shockable rhythms?
A
- PEA
- all electrical activity minus VT/VF
- Asystole
3
Q
outline the reversible causes of arrest
A
4H’s 4T’s
Hypoxia
Hypo/hyperkalaemia
Hypovolaemia
Hypothermia
Tamponade
Toxins
Tension Pneumothorax
Thromboembolism
4
Q
what are the 3 main causes of arrest?
A
- VFib
- best prognosis= shockable
- PEA
- can be 50/50 depending on underlying cause of arrest: 4Hs and 4Ts
- Asystole
- extremely poor prognosis -1/4000 chance of survival
- causes varies
5
Q
what is the single most effective way of resuscitating someone with a shockable rhythm?
A
good CPR commenced within 4 minutes of collapse & defib within 8 minutes - increase survival chance by 30%
6
Q
aetiology of VFib?
A
- IHD
- Post-infarction
- TDP
- prolonged QT interval
- VT
- severe hypoxia
7
Q
symptoms/signs of VFib?
A
Syncope/cardiac arrest
8
Q
what does VFib look like on ECG?
A
shapeless, rapid oscillations & no organised complexes
9
Q
Rx of VFib?
A
- DC Cardioversion
- anti-arrhythmics
- IV Magensium
- cardiac pacing
- implantable cardiac defibrillator
10
Q
Complication?
A
death
11
Q
outline the algorithm for cardiac arrest
A
