UXO - Destroying UXO Flashcards
- What is the primary means of protecting personnel from UXO?
A. Evacuate them from the danger area.
- What is the minimum safe distance?
A. 300 Meters
- What are the ways to protect a structure against earth shock?
A. Trenching, venting, and buttressing.
- Describe an effective trench.
A. Should be as close as possible to installation, extend 24” below foundation, slightly longer than radius of earth shock, at least 18” wide
- Describe an effective buttress.
A. 10’ wide at base, tapered to at least 4’ wide on top, must not extend to opposite wall, sandbags interlock.
- Describe Barricades.
A. Must be high enough to block shock waves from height of installation, wide enough to protect corners, thickness or depth is 3’ for less than a 105mm, 6’ for 105mm and above.
- What is the K factor for light case munitions for determining safe frag distance?
A. 300
- What is the K factor for heavy case munitions for determining safe frag distance?
A. 500
- What is the K factor for a mix of light case and heavy case munitions for determining safe frag distance?
A. 650
- What is the formula for determining safe-blast/safe-frag distance from cache detonating point?
A. D= K x Cube root of (NEW x 1.38). Answer will be in feet.
- Describe SF method for cache destruction.
A. HEAT munitions between Heavy case rounds, place primed block on rocket motors, stack munitions no more than 2 high, blocks of C4 overlap 1” minimum, rows of C4 will be placed on body of munitions, primed at both ends
- Describe Lattice method for cache destruction.
A. HEAT munitions between Heavy case rounds, place primed block on rocket motors, stack munitions no more than 2 high, blocks of C4 overlap 1” minimum, rows of C4 will be placed on body of munitions, add a block of C4 about every third block to form a ladder, primed at both ends
- Describe donor method for cache destruction.
A. Use mine (face up or face down) to cover munitions plus two on each side, two stacks high (mine doesn’t count as a third), claymores cannot be donor charge, 2 primed blocks of C4 on top per mine.
- How much C4 used to destroy hand grenade or smaller?
A. ½ block M112 as close as possible to UXO
- How much c4 used to destroy mines?
A. 1 block M112 as close as possible curved around the mine
