UX Interview Questions Flashcards
Tell me about yourself?
I recently finished a UX Certification program with Career Foundry while working as a freelance UX and Visual designer.
Tell us what you’ve been up to?/ Can you walk me through one of your projects?
Let me show you the last project I’ve been working on.
It’s a project for TerraKaffe. They make automatic espresso machines.
This was actually a really exciting project because it’s a machine I’ve been wanting to own for a while but my Nespresso will have to do for now haha.
So, the goal was to create a mobile app to control the features on the machine. and the role I had in this project was to do the information architecture, as well as the UI design with multiple team members across the organization to come out with a clear concept for how we should design the app.
Describe a challenge and how you handled it./ Tell us about a project that was challenging./ What was one project you worked on that didn’t go as planned? What was the outcome?
There was a project I worked on last year where
We realized we misdefined the problem and we were solving the wrong thing.
So the way we moved forward as a team was to acknowledge that we’d make a mistake and reassess the problem and to almost start from scratch but use what we had to reframe it in a different way.
Personally,
During a freelance opportunity, I was tasked with designing their mobile experience for a new application. I had some difficulties delivering on time due to over-focusing on minor details and obsessing over pixels. I overcame this with my own personal research and learned to give my clients a less perfect version and then iterate on their feedback.
Why do you want to work here?
In previous roles, I didn’t get to do as much …. as I would like, and it’s something I really feel is important. I noticed that your company values ….. and this is something where I feel like I can bring a lot to your team.
What is your favorite digital project? and why?
s
Why does UX design interest you?/ How do you define UX design?
I guess as I grew more mature, I started to really find people interesting. and when I was a visual designer, I’ve learned that UX design is really all about learning about people.. your users. and then designing a product by making progress through continuous analysis and testing. It’s a form of design that’s always evolving. Like life. and as I continue my UX education I grow more and more interested in the subject.
Why have you chosen UX design as a career?

Can you walk us through your portfolio?
s
Tell us about a project you’re proud of?
s
What are some tools you use in your daily work?
s
What’s your process when going into a project?/What is your design process?
I always start with research. I gather as much information I can about the project, then I try to understand all the correlations between requirements and features of the project.
I’ll create a proto-persona focusing the most on the friction or the problem the user is facing and needs a solution for and their goals, the ideal reason why the user will be using the app. It really helps with the next process of sketching out my ideas/wireframing. Then I’ll start UI mood board. I look for design patterns, color styles, and UI components. Then I start creaking mockups. If usability testing is available that is when I start user testing. With the feedback, I refine the final version. And while the development process is in progress, I keep updating the design until it’s “done”.
What’s your involvement with UX Research?
s
What’s your work style or relationship like with developers?/ How do you hand off to engineering?
I am particularly sensitive to the fact that producing “clean”, sensibly structured, and organized files is an absolutely vital aspect of design work.
Prior to handoff, I would consult engineering and find out how they would like to receive the assets and use a handover tool like Zeplin to transfer the assets.
How do you deal with senior leaders that are adamant about a design decision or idea?

What value does UX design have?
