What is dialectial materialism?
The means of production control the foundation of a societys instuttions and beliefs
What are ideologies?
A set of ideas that contribute to ones goals, expections and actions
what is reflectism?
A text will reflect the society that produced it
what are proletriat?
The working class who work and produce wealth for the bourgeoisie
middle class
What is a bourgeoisie?
-Higher class, who own property and control the means of production
What is communism?
An economic system in which all resources are shared evenly amongst the people (in theory). There is no private ownership.
What is commodification?
The valuing of material things not for their usefulness, but for their power to impress others (sign value).
What is False conscoiusness?
When cultural conditioning leads people to accept a system that is unfavourable to them.
what is conscipicous consumption?
To buy something for the purpose of showing it off in an attempt to impress others, rather than for buying something for its usefulness.
What is sign value?
The value of something based upon its ability to impress others.
What is Alienation
The process whereby people become foreign to the world they are living in.
Interpellation
- the idea of the proletariat being manipulated into accepting the ifeology of the bourgeoisie
what is communism?
- an economic system in which resources are publically owned and in theory, shared evenly amongst people.
- no private ownership
