uWISE Tertogens Flashcards
yellow-brown deciduous teeth
tetracyclines (doxycycline, minocycline)
hyperbilirubinemia via displacement of bilirubin from protein binding sites
sulfonamides (avoid near delivery)
hemolytic anemia in g-6-p deficiency (theorietical)
nitrofurantoin
irreversible arthropathy, cartilage erosion in animals
quinolones
metronidazole?
not tertogenic in first trimester
crosses placenta! nasal and midface hypoplasia, stippled vertebral and femoral epiphyses, later hemmorage and hydrocephalus
warfarin! use newer LMWH
abnormal facies, cleft lip or palate, growth deficiency, hypoplastic nails and distal phalanges
phenytoin
1-2% risk of NTDs or spina bifida
valproate and carbamazepine
increased ventral and atrial septal cardiac defects
paroxetine (SSRI)
neonatal behaviors syndrome (increased muscle tone, irritability, jitteriness, respiratory distress)
all ssRIs
growth restriction, limb contractures, abnormal cavarum developement
ACE inhibitors
near delivery, thrombocytopenia w/associated bleeding and electrolyte disturbances
thiazide dieurtics
may interfere with breast milk production
all diuretics
ca blockers?
safe
methyldopa and hydralzine?
safe
in first trimester, missing or hypoplastic digits in the hands and feet
cyclophosphamide
alters folic acid metabolism, high doses lead to IUGR, severe limb abnormality, posterior rotates ears, micrognathia, hypoplastic supraorbital ridges
methotrexate
between 7-12w, can cause full masculinization, later partial
androgens
labioscrtoal fusion, phallic enlargement
testorestone, anabolic steroids
clitoromegaly, urogential sinus malformation, labioscrotal fusion
danazol
theoretical risk of premature ductus arteriosus closure
aspirin (tylenol is ok)
tocolytic, constricts fetal ductus areriosis, neonatal PHTN if used near delivery
indomethacin (other NSAIDs okay for short-term use)
gastroschisis (bowel protrudes near umbilical cord) in first trimester use
pseudoephendrin
transient withdrawal
benzos
CV malformations, limit exposure until after 8w
lithium
congenital abnormalities at high doses
vit A
significant fetal loss and malformation w/first trimester use
isotretinoin
topical gel, unclear effect, avoid if pregnant
tretinoin
pre-preg eval for thalassemia and sickle cell
hemoglobin electophoresis and CBC
