Q

C/S of Acute uveitis

A
• aqueous flare in anterior chamber - hallmark of uveitis
	◦ protein
• cells in anterior chamber
• ciliary flush - wbc that instead of settling down at bottom get stuck on corneal endothelium in clumps
• corneal edema
• blepharospasm - pain (squinting, tearing, rubbing)
• lacrimation
• hypopyon - wbc in anterior chamber
• hyphema
• photophobia
- miosis
- keratic precipitates
• iridal swelling

a cat can clean by licking his hairy paw making kitten impressed

Q

C/S of chronic uveitis

A
  • cataracts
  • synechia
  • phthisis bulbi
  • rubeosis iridis - preiridal fibrovascular membrane (bv in this membrane make iris look red)
  • deep corneal vascularization
  • iris bombe - 360 degree posterior synechia –> 2dry glaucoma
  • iris pigmentation
  • glaucoma
  • lens luxation

16
Q

what is phacoclastic LIU

A

pp. leakage following rupture of lens capsue - cat claw

17
Q

intraocular neoplasia of the uvea

A

ciliary body adenoma/carcinoma

uveal melanoma

18
Q

secondary neoplasia of the uvea

A

lymphosarcoma most common
hemangiosarcoma
fibrosarcoma

19
Q

what is reflex uveitis

A

is initiated by the pain and inflammation associated with corneal ulceration

20
Q

how do you treat reflex uveitis? what should you not use?

A

atropine and systemic NSAIDs

do not use topical steroids

21
Q

what does atropine do?

A

mydriasis

cycloplegia - paralyzes ciliary muscles (stops spasms)

22
Q

when can you not use atropine

A

when secondary glaucoma is a risk - post cataract surgery

23
Q

what are the 3 main goals of treating uveitis

A

stop inflammation
dilate pupil
paralyze ciliary body

24
Q

how often do you a topical NSAID for uveitis

A

4-6 times a day

25
Q

how often do you use atropine

A

1-2 times a day

26
Q

what drugs should you not give to cats for uveitis and why

A

anything polymyxin B (neo-poly-dex/bac, terramycin)

can cause anaphylactic shock

27
Q

what fungal medication is used for the eye

A

fluconazole

28
Q

what should you add to fluconazole with fungal infection

A

inflammatory dose of steroid

to prevent bad reaction to dying fungi

29
Q

causes of equine recurrent uveitis

A

immune mediated
lepto
oncocerca

30
Q

treatment for equine uveitis

A

flunixin meglumine (1.1mg/kg BID)
topical steroid (neopolydex)
atropine
cyclosporine implant
