Uveal Tract Flashcards
What is uveal
is the middle layer of the eye, divided into the anterior uvea (iris, ciliary body) and posterior uvea (choroid).
The uvea is sandwiched between an outer layer (sclera) and an inner layer (retina).
Classification of uveitis
1-anterior :anterior chamber is primary
2-Intermediate: vitreous is the primary site includes ( pars planitis ).
3-Posterior: Retina and/or choroid.
4-Panuveitis: all uveal structures are involved.
Anterior uveitis
Anterior uveitis is inflammation involving of the anterior uveal tract ( iris and anterior part of the (Ciliary body) (pars plicata ). It’s the most common form of uveitis.

Clinical features anterior uveaitis
Symptoms in AAU include rapid onset of unilateral pain, photophabia, redness and
Watery discharge.
Visual acuity depend on severity and presence of complications, its usually mildly reduce in AAU
Ciliary injection its circumcorneal conjunctival hyperaemia with purplish hue colour Due to involved of deeper blood vessels. Typically seen in acute onset of AU.
Cilairy injection is absent is some form of CAU.
Miosis due to pupillary sphincter spasm predisposes to the formation of posterior synechiae.
