UV-Vis Molecular Absorption Spectroscopy Flashcards

1
Q

What is Beer’s Law?

A

Beer’s Law relates Aborbance (and indirectly relates Transmittance) to the molar absorptivity, path length (of sample cuvette), and concentration of the analyte.

Q

What are the limitations of Beer’s Law?

A
  1. The results are only linear at low concentrations (i.e. dilute solutions).
  2. Molar absorptivity has a dependency on refractive index.
