Preference utilitarianism
Does not seek to maximise the simple sensation of pleasure,but instead values the satisfaction of choices.
Preference utilitarianism
Argues that you should take into account preferenceof the person concerned in each case, unless those preferences are outweighed by the preferences of other people
Preference utilitarianism
The greatest good is satisfying the preferences of the most people.
Negative utilitarianism
It is the states role to minimise suffering, whereas maximising happiness is a private matter.
Eg. Feed the homeless before buying the newest iPhone
Hedonism
States happiness is the only good we should aim for in our lives.
Act utilitarianism (Bentham)
We should decide the right thing by trying to maximise pleasure and minimise pain
