What are some upper urinary tract symptoms?
Loin pain Fever Rigors Flank tenderness Loin mass
What are som lower urinalysis tract symptoms?
Dysuria Frequency Urgency Haematuria Suprapubic tenderness
What is a renal carbuncle?
Abscess within the renal parenchyma, usually confined to the cortex
(Seen in diabetics and IVDUs)
What does renal TB classically cause?
Sterile pyuria (raised WCC in urine with no bacteriuria)
Non pregnant women aged 18 UTI.
What antibiotic?
Nitrofurantoin 100mg modified release BD for 3days
Or
Trimethoprim 200mg BD for 3days
Pregnant woman UTI
1st line abx?
Nitrofurantoin 100mg MR BD for 7days
Can you give a pregnant woman trimethoprim?
No
What are some 2nd line abx for a UTI in a pregnant female?
Amoxicillin (500mg TDS for 7days)
Cefalexin (500mg BD for 7days)
Do you treat asymptotic bacteriuria in pregnant women?
Yes! Choose from nitrofurantoin amoxicillin or cefalexin based in recent culture
