Military Aviation Authority
What is the MAA?
Single regulatory authority responsible for regulating all aspects of air safety across defence.
What are the three levels of documents within the MRP?
Overarching
Regulatory Articles
Manuals
What is the 4000 series?
Continuing Airworthiness Engineering
Why is coolant piped from the engine cooling system through the oil tank and oil supply pipe? (3)
To heat the oil in order to reduce its viscosity.
Ensuring it’s supplied efficiently to engine during cold operations.
Prolongs life of engine
What does the engine oil pump do?
Pressurises oil for engine lubrication
How many inlets and outlets does the oil pump have?
1 inlet
4 outlets
How Is the inlet to the oil pump fed from the oil tank?
Gravity
Percentages of the 4 outlets of oil pump?
Outlet 1 - 43% returns to the oil supply line.
Outlet 2 - 43% for drive side end plate engine, main bearing lubrication.
Outlet 3 - 7% not used and is returned to oil supply line.
Outlet 4 - 7% for rotor housing for lubrication.
Hat does the poly v fan assembly consist of? (2)
Fan housing
Impeller
What is the poly v fans function?
Suck cold air in to keep engine from exceeding design temperature
What does the temperature sensor on the poly v fan assembly measure?
Air temperature which is exiting the engine.
Purpose of air filter?
Stops shit reaching the combustion chamber
What does IPS stand for?
Ice protection system
What is the IPS made up of? (3)
8 wing electro-expulsive actuators in the wings
2 electro- expulsive actuators in the Vtails (1 each)
Ice detector
What is the purpose of a idler? (2)
Provide tension & drive engine drive belt
Why is an EMC kit used?
Reduce interference from ignition system
What makes up ignition system? (3)
Spark plugs
Coils
Leads (copper braid)
What does the starter alternator provide?
Electrical power to the RPAS
