Using Transcets Flashcards
What do Transcets show?
Transcets shows zonation - how species change across a habitat. It can also show how species change across the boundary been two different habitats.
Is using transects more systematic or a
random?
Systematic.
How does it work?
1) A line or tape measure is laid down with regular intervals marked along it.
2) A small quadrat is laid next to the line and the number of plants of the different species is counted.
3) The quadrat is moved along at regular intervals and the plant populations estimated and recorded at each point until the end of the line.
How can the results be represented?
As a kite diagram - the height of a particular kite show how abundant that
particular species is at that point.
