Using The Technology: Oscillator Flashcards
Oscillation means something moving back and forth in a ? pattern (waveform).
Regular.
A sine wave has a “?” tone and is the basic building block of all sounds we hear.
Pure.
A triangle wave is slightly harsher than a sine with quiet ? and flute-like textures, pads and melodic vocal sounds.
Harmonics.
A sawtooth wave is an even and edgy sound with rich ? used in strings, basses, pads, brass sounds and lead synths in ? music.
Harmonics.
Dance.
Square waves are ? and the woody sound emphasises odd outnumbered ?, used in clarinets, oboes and brass sounds.
Hollow.
Harmonics.
Pulse waves have a ? pulse width and are nasal sounding used in reed instruments and bass.
Variable.
Pulse width modulation (???) can be used to create timbres that slowly evolve during a note.
PWM.
Some oscillators include a white noise generator (containing all ?).
Frequencies.
Noise can be mixed in to create a more ? sound.
Complex.
Most synths have more than one ?
Oscillator.
Tuning variance creates slight ? ? and gives the waveform a thicker texture similar to a chorus pedal.
Phase cancellation.
