Using data to make a clinical decision Flashcards
What are the different parts of quantitive data analysis?
Cleaning and organising data
Summarising data
Presenting data
Whats the difference between a normal range and a reference range?
Reference range: descriptions of data derived from a sample of a reference population. A reference population has characteristics that have been carefully defined with regard to age and gender and when relevant, other b=variables such as state of health, ethnic origin and physiological status (e.g. pregnant?)
Normal range: less strictly defined terms than a reference range. Its generally used to mean a range derived from a healthy population
What guides data analysis?
The research question the data is trying to answer and the hypothesis to be tested
What contributes to the validity of a dataset?
A data sets validity is related to its accuracy and precision in representing the population it is referring to.
How do you handle outliers?
You may be able to delete but you may also need to keep them in the analysis
Some outliers are clearly a case of mistake in the data collection- in this case it is justified to not consider them for the analysis
