Useabilty and visual principles Flashcards
Utility
A useability principle that simply means how useful an interface is.
Effectiveness
A useability principle that relates to how well an interfaces does what it needs to do.
Learnability
A useability principle regarding how intuitive and easy to learn a digital solution is.
Accessibility
Digital accessibility is the process of making digital solutions accessible to everyone. It is about ensuring all users can access the same information, regardless of the impairments they may have.
Useability principle
Space
Space can be used to support meaning and to zone groups of data. It can used consistently to develop predictability throughout a user experience.
Visual communication element
Colour and Tone
A consistent approach to colour choice throughout the application. This assists in branding and the predictability of a product for users.
Visual communication element
Line
The use of the line element in interfaces is well defined and is naturally applied in the principles of alignment, proximity and hierarchy.
Visual communication element
Shape
They may be used in a variety of ways, such as to organise, connect or separate elements and content. Shapes may also symbolise or represent a concept, create movement, provide depth or texture, and a lot more.
Visual communication element
Texture
Refers to the tactile or inferred visual features of an object
Visual communication element
Alignment
A principle of design that is conductive to how users infer information from a layout.
Visual communication principle
Repitition
Provides predictability through the reusability of elements. The repeated layouts could be page constructs, sections or product layouts.
Visual communication principle
Contrast
Constrast is what you see when you compare things that are different. Contrast can be archiend in simple ways such as proportions and scale.
Visual communication principle
Balance
Balance in an interface refers to a sense of equilibrium and symmetry in the eyes of the user.
Visual communication principle
Proximity
When presented information, users will mentally group together elements that are close to each in a space.
