Usability testing Flashcards
What is usability?
Usability is how easy an object is to use. In test its defined as: at which an average person can use the software to achieve specific goals.
What are the usability components?
Learnability: how easy it is for a new user to accomplish tasks for the first time.
Memorability: how easy it is to come back after not using the system
Efficiency: How quickly the users can complete tasks when familiar with the system
Satisfaction: whether the user enjoys the systems design etc
Error: the number of errors a user makes when they use the system.
What is usability testing?
It is the activity that focuses on observing users performing tasks with a product that are real and meaningful to them..
Are usability black-box or whitebox and why?
It is black-box because you don’t look at the internal structure of the system.
Acceptance testing reveals how the users feel in regards to something, what is something?
Flow, Navigation, Layout, Speed, Content.
Which Usability Testing methods are there?
Prototypes, Labs and Field testing.
What is Protoype Usability testing?
It involves creating a prototype, even a hand-skethed paper model of the interfaces can work, and then observing user’s undertaking tasks on with the prototype. This is extremely cheap and can be done before coding has begun.
What is Lab formal or mobile Usability Testing?
It is Usability tests done in a Lab or with a mobile testing setup. The lab allows for more advanced tracking such as tracking of eye movements etc. Lab also allows you to have much more control and better documentation, and the results can be trusted more.
Mobile setups can be done well too.
What is Field Usability testing?
It is when you do the tests in public places with people you ask.
What are the phases of Usability testing?
- Preparation
- Define users, recruit, define both preference (desireability and usability) and performance measures (time-on-tasks, errors), prepare a procedure script and consent form. - Moderation (Test session)
- Welcome participant, introduce, obtain consent, explain think out loud protocol, record the test, post-questionaire, reward. - Analysis (Post test)
- Process the data, prioritize the problems found, communicate results.
