Why do people immigrate to the USA?
Escaping war/poverty, start new life, bring children up to be US citizens or achieve American Dream
What are the 2 factors that cause {make} people {want} to move to the USA
Push and Pull factors
What are PUSH factors?
Forced/need to move due to war or conflict, seeking asylum refugee or employment issues (because millions of Mexicans have low paid jobs compared to jobs in American states which will pay more) or education reasons.
What are PULL factors?
Achieve American Dream, capitalism, healthcare, to become US citizens or for education reasons
What are 3 reasons FOR immigration?
1) It increases diversity and expands the culture of the country
2) Many immigrants will work for low paid jobs and many of these jobs, (such as cleaning) Americans won’t do
3) Intelligent and Ambitious intellectuals can bring their skills to America
4) Gives struggling people a better life
5) Improves the overall image of the USA internationally
What are 3 reasons AGAINST immigration?
1) Some Americans feel as though the national identity and language is disappearing
2) Immigrations can open up many opportunities for drug smuggling, human trafficking and terrorists
3) The more immigrants means the governments resources are use more, e.g. healthcare and education.
