A part of Yugoslavia (still very contested to this day) that had its own government. Then, Milosevic, who was president of Serbia/Yugoslavia attempted to ethnically cleanse the Albanians of the region. Then NATO came in (in 1999) and used military strikes to eventually end the crisis.

The Serbian nationalist leader who launched a war of ethnic cleansing against the Bosnian Muslims and Croat civilians. Ended up killing around 200,000 people of varying ethnicities in the land of “Greater Serbia”
