attendance
The number of people present at an event, meeting, etc.
government
Institutions and procedures through which a territory and its people are ruled.
political culture
A set of broadly shared values,
beliefs and attitudes about how the
government should function.
democracy
A type of government based on citizen participation.
pluralism
The characteristic of a political system in which many conflicting interests have access to government, and compete to influence
its decisions.
politics
Activity which seeks to influence government.
power
The influence over a government’s leadership,
organization or policies.
accountability
The state of being liable or responsible.
state of nature
A wild primitive state untouched by civilization.
social contract
An intellectual construct that typically addresses two questions:
First
That of the origin of society.
Second
The question of the legitimacy of the authority of the state over the individual.
citizen
A member of a political community, entitled
to its rights and privileges.
citizenship
Informed and active membership in a
political community.
direct democracy
A democracy in which the power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives.
representative democracy /republic
A system of government in which people elect representatives to run the affairs of the country.
liberty
The quality or state of being free.
