Seward’s Folly
A nickname given to the Alaska Purchase by the U.S Secretary of State, William Seward in 1867. It was believed that Alaska was a waste of money until gold and oil was found on it.
Queen Liliuokalani
Queen of Hawaii. Was overthrown by U.S planters and Hawaii eventually became a U.S territory.
The Maine
A ship that exploded in Habana, Cuba. The U.S said that Spain blew it up and declared war over it. Later it was discovered that the ship was accidentally blown up.
Rough Riders
a group of volunteer soldiers that were led by Theodore Roosevelt and they famously charged up San Juan Hill in Cuba.
The Platt Amendment
Cuba was forced to sign this into its constitution. The U.S could interfere in the affairs if the cuban gov. was acting against american interests.
Protectorate
An independent country whose policies are controlled by an outside power.
Imperialism
Taking over another country’s territory.
Isolationism
Avoid getting involved with affairs of other countries.

He was the 26th president.
Broke up many trusts because it stopped competitions.
Created gov. agencies to inspect food.
He protected natural resources.
