Urine Production Steps/Processes Flashcards

1
Q

Glomerular Filtration

A
  • The process by which the kidneys filter the blood, removing excess wastes and fluid.
  • Fluid and small solutes are forced under pressure to flow from the glomerulus into the capsular space of the glomerular capsule.
  • Bowman’s capsule is the filtration unit of the glomerulus

Q

Tubular Reabsorption

A
  • The process by which solutes and water are removed from the tubular fluid and transported into the blood.
  • Most of the reabsorption of the solutes necessary fro normal body function such as amino acids, glucose and salts takes place in the proximal part of the tubule.

Q

Tubular Secretion

A
  • Tubular secretion is the transfer of materials from peritubular capillaries to the renal tubule and occurs mainly by active transport and passive diffusion
  • Following secretion, urine leaves the kidney through the ureter.
