Who should be screened and treated for asymptomatic bacteriuria?
A
- pregnant: screened at 12-16 weeks gestation due to increased risk of pyelonephritis, preterm labour, low birth weight of infant
- urologic procedure in which mucosal trauma/bleeding is expected
- 2 to 3 days before the procedure
- does not include placement of a urinary catheter
- due to increased risk of bacteremia and urosepsis
