Urinary system Flashcards
Renal Corpuscle
It consists of (1) the glomerular capsule (Bowman); (2) the afferent arteriole going into the glomerulus; (3) the glomerulus, with capillary loops that connect the afferent and efferent arterioles; and (4) the efferent arteriole draining the glomerular capillaries.
Glomerular Filtration Membranes
Glomerular Filtration Membranes: as the plasma leaves the glomerular capillaries, it passes through, fenestrated endothelial cells with pores. The glomerular membrane acts as a filter allowing only small proteins to pass through but retains larger protein molecules, such as serum albumin.
Renal tubule
It is the part of the nephron involved in resorption and secretion. In the cortex, it begins at the urinary pole of a glomerulus and consists of:
Prox. Conv. Tubule ,loop of Henle and Dist. Conv tubule.
Male Urethra
serves to transport urine and sperm to the outside
-Prostatic Urethra: The prostate gland empties its secretions into the ejaculatory ducts. (transitional epithelium)
Cavernous or penile urethra- is lined with stratified columnar epithelium except near the opening, where it is stratified squamous.
Female Urethra
Female urethra is a shorter than males. made up of transitional epithelium only near the bladder, distal portion of the urethra has stratified squamous epithelium and An outer circular and an inner longitudinal layer of smooth muscle surround the urethra
