Urinary System Flashcards
What is the peritoneal relationship of the kidney?
It is a primary retroperitoneal organ
What are the three main items of the renal hilum in anteroposterior direction?
Renal vein, renal artery, ureter
Name the anatomical items fill up the renal sinus.
Blood vessels (branches of renal a. & v.)
Lymphatics
Autonomic nerves
Adipose tissue
Renal pelvis
Major calyces
Minor calyces
Name the three capsules which surround and contain the kidney.
Fibrous capsule
Adipose capsule
Renal fascia
What is the renal column made of?
In an adult kidney, the renal column is the extension of the renal cortex in between adjacent renal pyramids.
(contain blood vessels (interlobar) and fibrous connective tissue.)
What is the renal papilla?
The apex of the renal pyramid, which projects into the minor calyx is known as a renal papilla. The papillary duct (continuation of collecting duct) empties here.
Name the artery that supplies the kidney.
Renal artery
Where does the artery of the kidney derive from?
Abdominal aorta
Where do the veins of the kidney empty into?
Inferior vena cava
Name the arteries in order that form the microcirculation of the kidney from the renal artery until the glomerulus.
Renal artery, segmental a, interlobar a, arcuate a, interlobular a, afferent arteriole, glomerulus
What is the Greek name of the renal pelvis?
Pyelon
Name the parts of the ureter.
Abdominal part
Pelvic part
Intramural part
What is the peritoneal relationship of the ureter?
Abdominal part → primary retroperitoneal
Pelvic part → infraperitoneal
With which anatomical items does the ureter crosses in female?
Ovarian vessels
Common iliac vessels
Uterine vessels
With which anatomical items does the ureter crosses in male?
Testicular vessels
External iliac vessels
Ductus deferens
