Urinary Bladder Flashcards
The bladder is like…
a district capital, it stores fluids which are then excreted by the power of Qi transformation.
Heart and Lung (urination)
Qi descends to help excretion of urine
Small Intestine (urination)
helps separation of fluids
San Jiao (urination)
helps separation, transformation and excretion of fluids
Kidney Yang (urination)
provides Qi and heat for Qi transformation
Mental aspect
UB imbalance = provocation of negative emotions, jealousy, suspicion and the holding of longstanding grudges
Relationship between UB and KD
- UB derives the Qi and heat necessary for fx from KD and Ming Men
- KD relies on the UB to move and excrete its dirty fluids
Exterior Pathogenic Factors
Cold-Damp, Damp-Heat
Emotional Strain
affected by FEAR . . . in children this tends to manifest as nocturnal enuresis . . . in adults = feelings of suspicion and jealousy
Excess sex
depletes KD Yang, leading to frequent and abundant urination, nocturia or incontinence (affects men more than women)
too early sexual activity (activity during puberty) can injure the Chong and the Ren Mai leading to urinary problems later in life
Excessive physical exercise
especially lifting, weakens the KD Yang and leads to UB xu and cold
Full Patterns
Damp-Heat in the UB
Damp-Cold in the UB
Empty Patterns
UB Xu and Cold
Frequent pale abundant urination, incontinence, enuresis, nocturia
Lower backache, dizziness, a feeling of cold
White urethral discharge
T: pale and wet
P: Deep and Weak
UB Xu and Cold
Frequent and urgent urination, difficult urination (stopping mid-flow)
Hypogastric fullness and pain, dark-yellow/turbid urine
Burning on urination, hematuria, fever, thirst but no desire to drink, a feeling of heat
T: thick sticky yellow coating on the root with red spots
P: Slippery-Rapid and slightly Wiry on the Left rear position
Damp-Heat in the UB
