Urinalysis Flashcards
What does the urinary system remove?
Urea, salt, water, and other soluble waste products
What is the most important function of the kidney?
maintain homeostasis in the body by manipulating the composition of the plasma
Name 3 renal mechanisms.
Blood filtration, reabsorption, and secretion
What is urine?
The fluid that facilitates the elimination of metabolic waste from the body.
What percent water is urine?
95%
When is it still called tubular filtrate and what happens to it?
Before it gets to the renal pelvis and it decrease in volume and changes chemically several times
When does it begin to be called urine and what happens to it now?
When it reaches the renal pelvis and nothing happens to it after that.
What is polyuria?
Increase in urine volume
What is anuria?
No urine is produced
What is oliguria?
A decrease in urine volume
What is polkuria?
Frequent urination
What information does a urinalysis provide?
Hydration status, renal function, systemic diseases, and toxicity.
Name the four parts of a urinalysis
Macroscopic, microscopic, specific gravity, and chemical.
