Common causative agents of urethritis?

A

Neisseria gonorrhoea, chlamydia trachomatis

Rare: yeast, HSV, adenovirus

Trauma: intermittent catheterisation, etc

How does urethritis typically present?

A

Between ages 15/24, low socio-economic class, prior or current STD.

Urethreal discharge (from clear to purulent), itching or irritation between voids.
Dysuria.
Sensation of heavyness in male genitals.

A

Gram stain of urethral discharge.
NAAT test
Culture discharge

A

Ceftriaxone stat + doxycycline 7 days

Or cefixime, or gentamicin + azithromycin stat
