Schoolhill and Upperkirkgate have been made pedestrian
and cycle zones to further encourage their use - will also reduce the number of motorised vehicles on the road.
Technological advancements on Buses
Easy contactless payment ticketing methods have been implemented on First Busses Hydrogen fleet, also with
real time bus tracking apps - encourages more people to use them, develops reputation
Hydrogen Buses
- Hydrogen buses are clean and green - only emitting water.
- One Hydrogen bus will save 84 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of removing 38 petrol, or 40 diesel cars from the road. - Improves air quality, reduces Aberdeen’s carbon footprint environmentally conscious.
Bus Gates
Aberdeen bus gates introduced in city centre areas like Union terrace and Rosemount Viaduct.
implemented in the hopes of discouraging the city centre through traffic, unless using public transport - £60 fines
for those who don’t abide.
AWPR bypass
- AWPR bypass also opened in 2019, - designed to reduce congestion in Aberdeen, and improve traffic flow throughout the north-east in general. Around 50 percent of traffic has
shifted from Aberdeen city onto the new AWPR since it fully opened in February – easing congestion and improving air
quality in the CBD.
