urban precipitation Flashcards

1
Q

water storage

A

management of river channels through dredging, embanking, and channelisation will increase storage capacity
reservoirs, lakes, ponds and swimming pools are permanent stores but vulnerable to evaporation
depression storage e.g surface puddles following rain is a temporary store
interception storage is reduced as vegetation is replaced by impermeable structures e.g buildings, roads and pavements
ground conditions, clay soils retain more water than sandy ones, usually less storage capacity in urban areas as development reduces exposed and vegetated areas
