Geographical issues
Areas of concern due to changes resulting from the interaction within environments
Mega cities
Very large places of at least 10 million people
Sustainability
The ability to meet needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations
Transnational corporations
Large business enterprises with operations in several countries
World city
A large city that has importance to the operation of the global systems of finance, trade, politics etc.
Exurbanisation
Usually affluent people move from the city to rural areas but continue to maintain an urban way of life
Decentralisation
The dispersal of activities and people from large urban centres to smaller centres and rural communities
Urban village
A district with a common culture and identifiable community
Consolidation
Policies that encourage higher population densities by encouraging development within existing urbanised developments
Urban decay
Deterioration of the built environment
Suburbanisation
The movement of people, employment and facilities away from the inner city towards outer urban areas
Counterurbanisation
Movement of people from metropolitan areas to smaller urban centres
Urban renewal
The redevelopment of an urban area into high-density
Spatial exclusion
The defence of luxury lifestyles by restricting spatial access and the freedom of movement of others around the space
