What do land use models show?
The function of the land
In the burgess model, describe the central business district
The CBD is the middle circle and contains offices, banks, cinemas, parks e.t.c
What are the the different parts of a city in the burgess model?
CBD, the inner city, inner suburbs, outer suburbs, rural to urban fringe
In the burgess model, describe the inner city
Second from the middle where streets make a grid pattern, small housing mainly built for the factory workers at the factories there.

Third from the middle, houses are larger, semi detached, more space, parks
In the burgess model, describe the outer suburbs
Fourth from the middle, large detached houses, trees, further from work, more open space
In the burgess model, describe the rural-urban fringe
Fifth from the center, almost in the countryside, 40 minutes away from city center by transport, mixed land use.
What does Hoyt’s model show?
Similar to the burgess model but adds sectors of similar land use concentrated in parts of the city

The rich live closer to the CBD rather than the richest people living on the outskirts in MEDCs
