Urban Environments Flashcards
Urbanisation
An increase in the proportion of people living in urban areas. This can include rural-urban migration, natural increase and reclassification of rural settlements.
Define suburbanisation
The growth of urban areas at their edges (from towns and cities to surrounding villages and rural areas). This may result from the out-migration of population from the inner areas to the suburbs or from inward rural-urban movement.
Define counter urbanisation
The movement of population from inner urban areas to new towns, commuter towns or villages on the edge or just beyond the city limits/rural-urban fringe
Define rural urban-fringe
the area at the very edge of the city beside the countryside
Define megacity
A city with over 10 million residents
Why is land price a lot more expensive in the central business district?
CBDs tend to have high rise buildings, hence there being a strong demand for land but a shortage of space
