Upper limbs Flashcards
Anterior Deltoid
Proximal attachment: lateral third of clavicle
Distal attachment: deltoid tuberosity
Innervation: axillary nerve
Action: flexes and horizontally adducts GH joints
palpation method: sitting up, shoulder flexion
Middle deltoid
Proximal attachment: superior surface of acromion
Distal attachment: deltoid tuberosity
Innervation: axillary nerve
Action: abducts GH joint
palpation method: sitting up, abduction of arm to the side
posterior deltoid
Proximal attachment: spine of scapula
Distal attachment: deltoid tuberosity
Innervation: axillary nerve
Action: extends and horizontally abducts at GH joint
palpation method: prone, arm 90 degree
Bicep brachii long head
Proximal attachment: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Distal attachment: radial tuberosity
Innervation: musculocutaneous nerve
Action: flexes Gh joint
palpation method: bend elbow with resistance
Biceps Brachii (short head)
Proximal: coracoid process of scapula
Distal: radial tuberosity
Innervation: musculocutaneous nerve
Action: flexes elbow, supinates radioulnar joint
Palpation: palpate over coracoid process, bend elbow up
Brachialis
Proximal: Midway anterior aspect of humerus shaft
Distal: Coronoid process of ulna, ulnar tuberosity
Innervation: Musculocutaneous nerve
Action: Flexes elbow
palpation: Get patient to bend his arm 90 degree. -Grabs the brachialis
-Ask the patient to pronate his arm and gently move the arm up and down
Coracobrachialis
Proximal: Coracoid process
Distal: 1/2 humerus, medial side
Innervation: Musculocutaneous nerve
Action: flexed and adduction at GH join
palpation:
Triceps brachii (Lateral Head)
Proximal: Posterolateral aspect of humerus, inferior to greater tubercle
Distal: Olecranon process
Innervation: Radial nerve
Action: Etends GH joint
Extends elbow
palpation: - get patient to bring his arm next to his ear.
-Get patient to extend his elbow, PT to provide some resistance
Triceps brachii (median Head)
Proximal: distal humerus posteriorly
Distal: Olecranon process
Innervation: Radial nerve
Action: Etends GH joint
Extends elbow
palpation:
Triceps brachii (Long Head)
Proximal: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Distal: Olecranon process
Innervation: Radial nerve
Action: Etends GH joint
Extends elbow
palpation: - get patient to bring his arm next to his ear.
-Get patient to extend his elbow, PT to provide some resistance
