Upper Limb Muscles Flashcards
Trapezius
Origin and insertion
Extends and abducts head, rotates and adducts scapula, fixes scapula
Origin: posterior occipital bone, Nuchal ligament, C7-T4
Insertion: clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula
Deltoid
*
Abducts arm, flexes, extends medially and laterally rotates humerus
Origin: clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Pectoralis major
*
Flexes, adducts, and medially rotates humerus
Origin: clavicle, sternum, cartilages of ribs 1-7
Insertion: crest of greater tubercle of humerus
Pectoralis minor
*
Depresses glenoid cavity
Origin: ribs 3-5
Insertion: coracoid process of scapula
Latissimus dorsi
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus, draws shoulder inferiorly
Supraspinatus
*
Abducts arm, helps stabilize shoulder joint
Origin: supraspinous fossa
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Infraspinatus
*
Laterally rotates arm, stabilizes shoulder joint
Origin: infraspinous fossa
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Subscapularis
*
Medially rotates arm, stabilizes shoulder joint
Origin: subscapular fossa
Insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus
Teres minor
*
Laterally rotates and adducts humerus, stabilizes shoulder joint
Origin: lateral border of scapula
Insertion: greater tubercle of humerus
Teres major
*
Extends and medially rotates humerus
Origin: inferior angle of scapula
Insertion: crest of lesser tubercle of humerus
Biceps brachii
*
Flexes arm, flexes forearm, supinates forearm
Origin: superior margin of glenoid cavity, coracoid process of scapula
Insertion: radial tuberosity
Triceps brachii
*
Extends and adducts arm, extends forearm
Origin: infraglenoid tuberosity of scapula, lateral and posterior surface of humerus
Insertion: olecranon, tuberosity of ulna
Coracobrachialis
Flexes and medially rotates humerus
Brachialis
*
Flexes forearm
Origin: anterior, distal surface of humerus
Insertion: coronoid process of ulna
Brachioradialis
Flexes forearm
