Biceps
origin - Long head – supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula Short head – coracoid process of scapula
insertion - Radial tuberosity
Bicipital aponeurosis to the fascia on medial side of the forearm
action - Flex arm at shoulder
Flexes forearm at elbow
Supinates forearm at elbow
Brachialis
origin - Anterior, distal half of humerus
insertion - Coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna
action - Flexes forearm at elbow
Brachioradialis
origin - Lateral supracondylar ridge of humerus
insertion - Styloid process of radius
action - Flexes forearm at elbo
triceps
origin - Long head-Infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
Medial head – inferior 2/3 of posterior humerus
Lateral head – proximal portion of posterior humerus superior to radial groove
insertion - Long head-Posterior olecranon process of ulna
Medial head - posterior olecranon process of ulna
Lateral head – posterior olecranon process of ulna
action - Long head-
Extends forearm at elbow
Medial head – extends the forearm at elbow
Lateral head – extends the forearm at elbow
Iliocostalis
origin - Angles of ribs 7-12, medial to insertions of iliocostalis lumborum
insertion - Angles of ribs 1-6, transverse process of C7
action - Extends vertebral column , laterally flexes vertebral column
Longissimus thoracis
origin - Transverse and spinous process of lumbar vertebrae; sacrum and iliac crest
insertion - Transverse processes pf T1-T12; between tubercles and angles of lower 9-10 ribs
action - Extends and hyperextends vertebral column, laterally flexes vertebral column
External oblique
origin - External surfaces of the ribs 5-12
insertion - Linea alba, pubic tubercle, anterior half of iliac crest
action - Lateral flexion of trunk, rotation of trunk, flexion of trunk
Rectus abdominis
origin - Pubic crest, symphysis pubis of hip
insertion - Costal cartilage of ribs 5-7, xiphoid process of sternum
action - Flexes vertebral column , compresses abdomen
