Upper Limb - Elbow Joint Flashcards
What type of joint is the elbow joint?
Synovial hinge joint
hyaline cartilage lined articular surfaces
What is the Humeroulnar articulation?
Trochlea of humerus + Trochlea of ulna
What is the humeroradial articulation?
Capitulum of humerus + head of radius
What bony structures limit extension at the elbow?
Olecranon fossa of humerus receives olecranon process of the ulna
What are the main ligaments of the elbow joint? (4)
1) Ulnar collateral ligament (medial)
2) Radial collateral ligament (lateral)
3) Angular ligament
4) Quadrate ligament (radius + ulna)
What is the blood supply of the Elbow joint?
Anastomoses of brachial artery
Blood drainage of elbow joint?
Radial ulnar and brachial veins
Lymph drainage of elbow joint?
Deep cubical nodes at the brachial artery + lateral group of axillary nodes
Innervation of the Elbow joint? (4)
Musculocutaneous Nerve Median Nerve Ulnar Nerve Radial Nerve (C5,C6,C7,C8)
Average Carrying angle of elbow joint ?(men vs woman)
Men = 10-15 Woman = 20-25
Flexion of elbow joint?
Extension fo elbow joint?
Flexion = biceps, brachialis, brachioradialis Extension= triceps + anconeus
What are the articulating surfaces of the radioulnar joint? (Joint type)
Synovial pivot joint + interosseous membrane
Ligaments of the proximal radioulnar joint? (3)
Annular ligament
Quadratus Ligament
Interosseous membrane
Blood supply of radioulnar joint (proximal/distal)
Proximal: anastomoses of brachial artery
Distal: anterior/posterior interosseous arteries + dorsal palmar carpal network
Blood drainage of of proximal/distal radioulnar joints?
Proximal: Brachial Vein
Distal: accompanying veins of arteries
