Radial nerve Function
important for the extension of all joints in the arm and hand.
function of the median
important for the thumb side of the hand and wrist
function of the ulnar nerve
important for the little finger side of the hand and writst
radial nerve lesion (motor deficits)
extension of the arm, wrist (wrist drop), and finger joints. supination of the forearm. abduct the thumb in the plane of the palm.
radial nerve lesion (sensory)
Posteriolateral arm, posterior strip on the forearm, dorsal surface of the thumb, lateral surface of the hand, and the dorsum of the first 3.5 digits.
median nerve lesion (motor)
flex and oppose thumb, flex digits 2 & 3, flex or abduct wrist (ape hand), pronate forearm
median nerve lesion (sensory)
lateral palm, ventral thumb and digits 2 & 3, dorsal tip of the thumb, and digits 2 & 3.
Ulnar nerve lesion (motor)
adduct and abduct fingers other than thumb, adduct thumb, flex digits 4 & 5 (claw hand), flex and adduct wrist.
ulnar nerve lesion (sensory)
medial palm, all of the 5th digit, and the medial side of the 4th digit.
axillary nerve lesion (motor)
abduct arm at shoulder beyond 15 degrees
axillary nerve lesion (sensory)
spot on the lateral arm over the deltoid
musculocutaneous nerve lesion (motor)
flex the arm at the elbow and supinate forearm
musculocutaneous nerve lesion (sensory)
lateral forearm.
