upper limb Flashcards
Pectoralis Major - Action/Function
Adducts and medially rotates the humerus, draws the scapula anteriorly and inferiorly; clavicular head flexes the humerus, sternocostal head extends the humerus from a flexed position.
Pectoralis Minor - Action/Function
Stabilizes the scapula by drawing it inferiorly and anteriorly against the thoracic wall.
Subclavius - Action/Function
Anchors and depresses the clavicle.
Serratus Anterior - Action/Function
Protracts the scapula and holds it against the thoracic wall, rotates the scapula.
Trapezius - Action/Function
Descending part elevates, ascending part depresses, and the middle part retracts the scapula. Descending and ascending parts together rotate the glenoid cavity superiorly
Latissimus Dorsi - Action/Function
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates the humerus.
Levator Scapulae - Action/Function
Elevates the scapula and rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating the scapula.
Rhomboid Minor - Action/Function
Retracts the scapula and rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly; fixes the scapula to the thoracic wall.
Rhomboid Major - Action/Function
Retracts the scapula and rotates its glenoid cavity inferiorly; fixes the scapula to the thoracic wall.
Deltoid - Action/Function
Clavicular part flexes and medially rotates the humerus, acromial part abducts the humerus, spinal part extends and laterally rotates the humerus.
Subscapularis - Action/Function
Medially rotates the humerus and acts as a dynamic stabilizer of the glenohumeral joint as part of the rotator cuff.
Supraspinatus - Action/Function
Abducts the humerus and is part of the rotator cuff.
Infraspinatus - Action/Function
Laterally rotates the humerus and is part of the rotator cuff.
Teres Minor - Action/Function
Laterally rotates the humerus and is part of the rotator cuff.
Teres Major - Action/Function
Adducts and medially rotates the humerus.
Biceps Brachii - Action/Function
Supinates the forearm and flexes the supinated forearm; the short head resists dislocation of the shoulder.
Brachialis - Action/Function
Flexes the forearm in all positions.
Triceps Brachii - Action/Function
Extends the elbow; the long head resists dislocation of the shoulder
Coracobrachialis - Action/Function
Helps to flex and adduct the arm; resists dislocation of the shoulder.
